so the thing is over the last few weeks my net has started to get very very slow with no apperent reason.....my set up is pretty simple I have a brighthouse cable modem hooked up to a linksys router(new one, I thought the problem was the router so I bought a newer version) and there is an Imac g5, my ibook g4 and a very old HP on the wireless part and my tivo hooked thru ethernet, now this happened out of nowhere the router wouldnt work at all but when I connected dirctly to the modem internet was normal, so I went and got a new wireless linksys and it works but sometimes at dial up speed and I have to restart the modem and router every day sometimes multiple times a day. its geting to be a very annoying task. does any one know of any solutions to this I read online and found that static ip is faster for the network so I set it up and it had no change it didnt make it better or worse.

I'd really appretiate the help I'd hate to have to call a "tech" in for him to go "the proplem is those white things, get a real computer like a dell" which is what a guy from bright house told me after being unable to find DOS on my ibook.

It's slow because i'm hogging the entire internet connection of the entire world with my massive uploads. I'm uploading hacked Beta's of Mac OS 10.7 onto large corporate websites at 12 Exabytes per second.

Do you have anyone using file sharing apps on the network? These can cripple a network in such a way, irrespective of how fast they are downloading/uploading at the time. If you do have these apps running, then turn them off, reboot the router/modem and see how it goes from there.

There's a 60% chance it's brighthouse screwing with their network again. I keep losing access to their dns servers right and left, which is very annoying when you're trying to research stuff. Call them and complain.

I'm not sure why people think its a computer problem when the internet slows down, seriously, ever thought of contacting your ISP? Its VERY possible they screwed up or something went wrong and you are getting a slow connection.

Innternet speed has VERY little to do with the computer, most is the configuration of the modem (which should never screw up unless the modem resets) and of course the proper DNS\IP settings, but thats it.

Your internet is not gonna slow down because you have a G4 and not a G5.

It's not the betas of 10.7 that you're uploading, it's all that grumbling in the Mac Pro not shipping thread

I was afraid of having the internet tech guy over here with the macs but surprisingly, he handled that Mac like a pro, troubleshooting the connection just as fast as on WindowsXP, he even taught me a few things its nice to have tech guys like that.
