Netflix shows are very dark. Is there anyway to brighten up just Netflix? Currently I adjust the overall Netflix when watching it, but then have to adjust back down when switching to another app.

Any solutions?

I am unaware of any way to adjust the brightness of individual apps.

It’s probably supposed to be viewed like that?!
Maybe, but Neflix is darker than any others like, Prime, Showtime or Hulu. Others have also asked this question via a google search. Android users do have a brightness bar right in their Netflix, but I couldn’t find anything for Apple.

Of course it's not a huge problem. Just thought someone in Macrumors might know of a fix.

Had to stop watching an episode of Ozark yesterday because of just this. There's a big window next to my TV and we just couldn't see what was happening in the dark scenes. Ozark is now night viewing!

I'm experiencing the same problem as you. Is it just Netflix being weird as per usual?

Would love a feature where full screen video in any app automatically brightens the screen.

Same issue on iPhone 12 Pro Max (iOS 14.7.1) and iPad Pro 12.9 M1 (iPad OS 15.0 (19A5318f)).

I tried:

- Removed auto brightness
- Uninstalled Netflix and put it back again
- removed true tone

none worked.

While streaming only in cellular brightness was fine, the issue is limited on my devices while using WiFi only (internet link is 1Gbps up/down so is not that). I called Netflix and Apple, none of them where able to provide an answer how to solve it. Netflix said they raised a ticket…

Only thing that worked was to download the show on high resolution and then plays superb! so I wonder if on dolby vision / hdr shows it has issues to stream It at full brightnes? Youtube has no issues with this type of content!

old shows looked fine.

In my experience only shows in Dolby Vision are dark. Everything else is ok.

I guess Dolby Vision forces a low brightness and there’s unfortunately no way around it (except maybe ways to disable Dolby Vision ?)

Interestingly, I see this same effect with Netflix on my Surface Pro 7. Using Ozark S1E1 as a test, in the Netflix app on both my 2021 12.9 Pro and on my i7 SP7, the picture is dark and quite poor. However, I download the episode on both and that looks good.
