i just saw a netflix commercial where a guy walks up and uses a macbook to access netflix. i don't think he used the watch it now feature. i just find it funny he used a macbook, meanwhile you can't use their watch it now feature on os x.

I know, it's really annoying when they will use an :apple: computer in these commercials their service doesn't support them. They are going to begin supporting OS X sometime this year though.

Netflix has used iBooks before in their older commercials. It's really one of those cases where Apple's beautiful products are "just right" for the ad.

Of course it's still infuriating that real Mac users can't use the download service, but I guess that's just one of the ironies of life!

It's probably from Windows via Bootcamp, who knows...

The ad just shows him browsing movies on it. They haven't advertised the Watch it Now feature as heavily as one would expect (the one ad they did have for it used a black PC, not a Mac).

Which is why there are three white iMacs in the Diet Coke advert, at the end.

It's because they look good (The white possibly makes the product being advertised seem innocent).

IIRC, a Ford commercial also made us of a white iMac a while back. And Nissan has done so as well.

I don't know the first thing about marketing, but that makes sense. White is very neutral and non-threatening. It could also help establish a sense of "comfort" for viewers.

I've noticed that as well, Apple computers being used in commercials. But, at the same time remember that companies bid for product placement. It's not that they are being used, but they got paid for being used :)

With any other company, I would agree. However, I find that Macs have been in commercials so frequently that I find it hard to believe that Apple bids for them all.

I also think that because so many creative professionals like Macs, they might be handpicking them for the ads.

Besides, bidding usually happens in cases of logo usage. The past several Netflix commercials (all in recent memory in fact) lack the logo. The same is true for some Nissan ads and a few other ads that throw Macs in. We know they're Macs because we know Apple's design. Not everyone will, and no company will pay for the chance of recognition; they want certainty.
