Having a blast with the Netflix app, but am having trouble figuring out how to get rid of the info bar that displays the time and battery level at the top of the screen. It ruins the immersion factor.

Sometimes I have it, other times I don't. I have noticed that on the floating control set, if I press the minimize/maximize button, it stops playback and kicks me back to the site.

Anyone else having these issues?

Pinch-Out

Yup, to remote the status bar, use the Pinch-Out gesture like you are zooming in. If you Pinch-In it will exit the video. Seems silly they made it show the status bar by default though.

how does the netflix membership work, is it unlimited movies on the ipad? or one movie per day etc..

It's the same as the website 'Watch Instantly' rules, which is pretty much unlimited, if you have an appropriate subscription. I think the lowest-value sub may have a limit per month.

Questions about Netlfix

I never streamed Netflix to my Macs, 360, or PS3. So I am a total newbie. Being a movie lover I can't believe I waited so long for this, I guess I still love getting the actual DVD or Blu-Ray. Well it's time to move to streaming, especially since I am getting an iPad.
Here are a few questions on Netflix (any help will be great!)
-How long does it take to stream the movie?
-How is the quality?
-Can you rent another movie exactly after your done with the one you just watched?
-Does it take up GB's? if so about how many?

Thanks, again I oddly have not done this yet. I wonder if Blockbuster will come out with an App. i just hope Netflix adds more movies via stream.

-Steaming is pretty much instant depending on your internet speed. Once you clicked watch it takes a few seconds to load then it's on.

-Quality is ok, below DVD quality, again depends on internet speed at your house. There are some instant movies with HD but it doesn't look good as say Bluray but much better than DVD. But only a few movies/TV shows available with HD streaming.

-You can watch as many instant movies as you want. There is no limit.

- 0 GB hard drive since it's streaming.

Quality depends on the movie. Some are below DVD, others are as good as cable HD. If you are watching on say an xbox or ps3, the ones that are in HD are noted. You don't really need HD on an iPad. It's not like the quality hi res detail would really come through on a 10 inch screen

You don't actually rent, you add as many movies to your watch instantly queue as you want, you can watch as many movies as you want, back to back. They don't leave your queue unless you remove them, so if you have kids, this is the promise land.

I have netflix on my xbox, ps3, iPad, and now Wii. My daughter was watching a movie on the wii while I was watching a comedy show in the kitchen on my iPad. Now that's cool.

I currently stream movies on my 360, my PS3, my Wii, my PC, and now my iPad, so I would say that makes me qualified to answer your questions.

1. Streaming begins almost instantly. I would say that within thirty seconds or so the video begins playing.
2. IMO the video quality is great. Definitely better than any standard Youtube videos or anything like that. Usually once you begin streaming, the video looks a little crappy, but once some buffering is done the video gets progressively better. Definitely not 1080p, but acceptable.
3. If you have steaming capabilities you are only limited by the number of titles on your instant que (and with the iPad app this is a non-issue since you can add more while in the app). You can start a movie, stop in the middle, and go start another. There is no limit to the number of videos you can watch in a particular time period.
4. The bandwidth used by streaming Netflix, while not huge, is still significant. I currently use a Verizon MiFi hotspot when I'm away from my home wifi connection and personally I hold off from using the netflix app then. But if you're at home, or are getting the 3G iPad which has unlimited 3G usage, I say stream away my friend!

And to comment on the actual thread topic: the status bar really posses me off while streaming a video, but I'm sure this is something that should be addressed really soon with an app update.

Hope this helps...

how come i cant add the newer movies to my instant que? all the stream-able movies are old movies made before 2000

The majority of the "Watch Instantly" titles are older releases. They'll post newer releases to stream (they recently added Julie & Julia), but the majority of my streaming queue is filled with older horror, action, and kung-fu films (which I love).

The Watch Instantly category is also very good for TV shows...lots of Office, 24, Bones, Buffy -- which are all great for watching on a portable device.
