Netflix Safari (1750 bitrate) max quality all of a sudden?

Has anyone else experienced recently in the past few days, seeing when playing a title on Netflix in Safari with HTML5 that it acts like the max quality it can buffer to is 1750 which is SD? Normally the highest available option is 5800 which is full 1080p. It was weird because i was watching Daredevil one night at 1080p and the next morning went to watch Kimmy Schmidt and it had changed. I know it's not my network and i think it was after the 10.10.3 supplemental update which i know had to do with video driver issues so maybe that could have caused it?

Having the same problem since at least yesterday. I even tried formatting my computer this morning since I thought I might have somehow caused the issue but this did not fix the problem. It seems the issue began with the supplementary update for 10.10.3 that was issued a couple days ago . 1080p was definitely working before.

Also, I checked and on chrome (with silverlight) I am still able to get 720p so it is definitely not my internet connection-problem seems to be with Safari.

Good catch. I have the same problem on 10.10.4 beta 1.

NF on my ATV isn't working so good despite a solid connection. I checked downdetector (https://downdetector.com/status/netflix) - Netflix's Twitter feed has been blowing up since yesterday about outages... So, I'm here instead!

I'm just wondering if the lower bitrate is connected to the content you're viewing. For example, perhaps Friends isn't available in 1080p.

Would that cause the difference? I don't actually know, but this is the thought I had when looking at the posted screen grab.

Nope, Friends is in 1080p on Netflix. Like i said in my original post too, it does it for Kimmy Schmidt, etc

I was just looking at my Netflix account settings. I don't know if this is new, but there are now three tiers to the streaming plans. The first tier is standard definition. Have you guys checked to see which one is selected for your account?

I can tell there is a quality difference when I do a side by side comparison of HTML5 and Silverlight in Safari. Silverlight is obviously better once I let it buffer to HD.

From the Netflix homepage, move cursor to your name in the upper right, select Your Account, then look at Plan Details, and Change Plan.

It's something worth looking at, but it's unlikely to be the cause of your problem, since you are not having the issue with Silverlight.

Fuc*ing finally! Someone with the same problems as me! I've been searching the net with no results until now! I can't find anything anywhere about this.

I started noticing this last weekend. Everything is suddenly capped at 1750 kb/s(FRUSTRATING) when usually I stream at 5800 kb/s, it's unwatchable tbh.

I contacted Netflix chat support and guess what, they are like Jon Snow, they know nothing. No one even had a clue what the hidden menu was and what bitrates the streams should be... Maybe phone support is better..

I'm not sure but maybe it has something to do with the latest OS X update 10.10.3 with Safari 8.0.5.. I updated to this on April 8th and I'm not sure if Netflix has worked since.. it feels like it just started last week.

Anyway. Someone with OS X 10.10.2 and Safari 8.0.4 in here? Are you having the same problem because then it's probably a Netflix thing.

And about that. Silverlight sucks in comparison to HTML5 on Safari since Silverlight is capped at 720p @3000 kb/s whereas HTML5 does 1080p @5800 kb/s.

I get 5800kb/s on the windows 8 app, while my 10.10.3 macs are stuck at 1750. I don't have any on 10.10.2 but one has the supplemental update and the other doesn't. Both have the same issue.

Weird that more people haven't noticed this if it's a widespread issue.

I've noticed it over the past few days but until seeing this thread I thought that it was my computer or connection, rather than a widespread issue. Other people have probably come to the same conclusion.

Same problem here on Safari. Chrome works fine albeit in 720p but at least its working.

Jep, here too. Apple TV is fine, Safari tops out at a little more than 480p...

I couldn't find any way to email Netflix (they only seem to have "live chat" which is no good when I'm about to head to work) so I used the "Report a Problem" link on this page to let them know. This may go to a more technical department than normal support so it might be worth it if the rest of you give it a go.

I'm not sure how many are streaming Netflix with Safari, apparently not enough or this problem would be bigger, but Netflix is apparently aware of the issue and something is wrong with the compatibility with the latest Safari.

They are working on it. But why neither Netflix nor Apple haven't mentioned anything in news or otherwise is beyond me.

It's up and running at 5800 kb/s again.. Okay, this was one weird thing. Must have been a Netflix problem with latest Safari and not a Safari bug then since I haven't updated anything for it to work, unless Apple sends out small unnoticed updates(?).
