Netflix video quality, default, data usage

Ive been using Netflix a lot recently and I'm curious about data usage.

I notice 3 video options, none are selected but they are good better and best.

Does anyone know what the default is.

If a hd video is available does it play in hd on the default setting?

I have a 20 or 40 gb monthly cap and I've watched a lot recently in my first few days of Netflix. If they have been in hd I'm going to hit the cap v.quickly.

If you don't choose one of the video options in your Netflix account, it's going to default to the best resolution your connection will support at the time the video is playing.

You probably want to select one of the lower quality settings - Netflix can eat bandwith caps for lunch if your not careful. 40 gb won't last long on the higher quality settings.

I'm revisiting this topic

If I choose a lower quality I will miss the ability to watch HD stuff when I feel like it.

I would have to login to my laptop or use my phone to set it through the web site.

Is the default the best quality setting that mentions hd?

you can still watch HD shows but if you choose a lower quality they won't be in HD. I suggest using the middle choice, it is not HD but still very good

I know this was posted a while back but I was looking for this answer and this thread seems to be one of the first ones popping up on Google when you search this.

per netflix support..

The default setting in the US is “Best”.
The default setting in Canada is “Good”.
The default setting in Latin America is “Best,” except in Brazil where it is “Good”.
The default setting across the UK and Ireland is “Best”.
