What do you folks think about getting Netflix and Instant Streaming on this thing? Do you think it'll be browser based or a separate app? I haven't heard much talk about it yet, I'd like to hear your thoughts.

I would love it for both the iphone & the ipad. (I would love to stop carrying a macbook, and go with an ipad, but I don't think it will meet my needs.)
I think a separate app would work the best. The issue I see is AT&T refusing to allow it, making the app wifi only. In addition, Netflix uses microsofts silverlite video, so they would need to port that to the iphone/ipad.

Don't expect Hulu or Netflix on an iPhone/iPod touch/iPad until Apple can profit from it. They want you to buy films and TV from iTunes.
Once they jailbreak the iPad, you can use flash, unsure about Silverlight. I get why Apple doesn't do it, but that doesn't mean it's not possible if someone really wants it.
Silverlight was most likely used because it has DRM. QuickTime does not have DRM that third-parties can use. But on the iPhone/iPod touch/iPad, the device is already locked down so I would imagine DRM is not an issue when streaming. I could be wrong though, but I think the Silverlight thing is a non-issue.

Well, here's hoping for a Netflix app. Even Wifi only would be acceptable. I don't know if I'd want to stream that much on 3G anyways. (and also, I'm around a wifi connection through most of my day.)

Maybe more restricted to the "hulu" clone of an app then flash in general, my bad. I have not JB my iPhone so I've only read about it. Not to tough to find with a few mins of googling. Their is a Youtube video on how to get "hulu" working on an iPhone.
That same bit of "googling" would also reveal that Hulu, has been, or at one time was working on a native app for the iPhone. Apple likely blocking it, or maybe plans were abandoned but do enough digging anything is possible it would seem.

But anyway, 99.9% of iPhone/iPad users aren't going to hack the product to use a widely mainstream website. Uncle Jim sees a commercial for Hulu then tries to use it on his iPhone/iPad. Guess what the chances of him searching the internet for a hack is?

Flash can work on the iPhone, but each app needs to have its own flash installation. It's adobe's work around that's not really used...i think it's in beta, but it's there.

Seems like the iPad will only be useful once it is jailbroke then we will be able to put flash on it and multitask.
I think this would be awesome, and could be likely if the iPad really catches on. What video format does Netflix streaming use right now? I know on Safari you have to install Silverlight, but what format is the video that gets streamed to like the xbox 360 or PS3?
