Network 2 Mac Pros?

I'd like to be able to swap files between my 2 Mac Pros using old school ethernet. One is running Mountain Lion the other Lion....years ago I remember using an ethernet cable to do this in System prefs>networking. Can it still be done this way and how?

I'd use target disk mode but presently I don't have an extra Firewire cable and only one has an internal wireless card.

I have a home wifi network,no problem swapping files between iPhones,iPads,MacBooks or windows computers,it even works fine with the old chrome book we use as kitchen computer.. The important thing is to check up file formats,so all connected devices support the same file types. If it's two macs,that won't be a problem.

Yes just connect with an Ethernet cable and enable File Sharing.

Back in the day you had to use a special crossover cable or put a switch in between the two computers, but I don't think that is the case any more.

Having trouble with this again the other computer shows up in Finder>shared but all I get is a public folder with nothing but my drop box folder in it. I want to be able to view everything on that computer. It worked last weekend but not now for some reason?

Go to System Preferences > Sharing > File Sharing and then add whatever folders you intend to share into the Shared Folders: pane. Alternatively, enable Screen Sharing in that same System Preferences > Sharing section, and then you can screen share into the other computer and drag and drop files from one computer to the other without having the need to share each and every folder you intend to.

If you are trying to copy files from Computer 1 to Computer 2, and you are sitting at Computer 2, when you connect to Computer 1 you must use Computer 1's login info.

It seem to me that you logged into computer 1 with a "guest" account (which is why you're only seeing the public folder).
