network between tiger and mac os 7

Well this may sound weird ..but....is there a way to share files via a network between a mac with tiger (10.4.4) and a mac with mac os 7 (7.3 I think)....???

Well, it's theoretically possible via AppleTalk, but it might cause you a lot less frustration to just use floppy disks.

I know years ago at my high school they got beige g3s with OS8 to connect with appletalk to BW G3s running OS9. I do remember that it was a big PITA to get them to connect though.

Generally connecting any Mac OS from at least Mac OS 8.1 to Mac OS 10.3.9 should not be much of a problem. I would guess the 10.4.x should work also.

But below Mac OS 8.1 your going to start seeing issues. You need to have at least Appleshare client 3.8 installed to use AppleTalk via IP and the earliest system that will run that is System 7.6.

Mac OS 8 and 9 are basically the same operating system (and on the AppleTalk level are nearly identical to set up). Connecting those systems should be easy for any one with any experience with AppleTalk. Connecting Mac OS 8/9 to Mac OS X takes knowing a little more than the average user, but with instructions is not difficult.

The main problem with Mac OS X is that it dropped support for standard AppleTalk connections. So all AppleTalk connections need to be done via AppleTalk IP... which requires at least AppleShare client 3.8 installed on pre-Mac OS X systems.
