Network Connections

I switch to OSX a few months ago there is one thing I don't quite get.....

When I am logged in I can connect to shares on my network and use them fine.....when I log out and back in they are gone...how do I make them persistant ? I appreciate they will most likely ask me to authenticate if I try to use them but that's fine......

MacOSX Hints can be your friend

This is an issue of much debate. Some say it's easy to do (using tools such as OSX 10.4's Automator or any versions AppleScript) others say it's more difficult (requiring editing UNIX config files) but most people generally concur it can be done.

I would suggest you stop by a site such as http://www.macosxhints.com and search for something like "windows shares" or "windows sharing" or "smb" (which is the protocol Windows file sharing uses). This assumes you're connecting OSX to a Windows PC. If you're connecting to other Macs you might search for "bonour" or "apple shares", etc.

I think there is some application that does what you want, but not sure of the name, check out versiontracker.com

Then I call an end to the contraversy I have just found a nice and simple (what else with osx) way to do it.

Mount the share through finder......then open preferences / accounts / login items.......then just drag the icon into it works a treat...
