So this past weekend decided to give MobileMe a try, hooked up my MB Air and the wife's MBP (I thought it would be a great alternative to Skype because of all the push features). Plus get to use iChat and all the nifty features like Back to My Mac.

Everything was working fine on the home network except I am now on business in Germany and am using the wireless network in the hotel. I was here last week so know the laptop is fine using the vodafone network.

Anytime I touch anything remotely to do with MobileMe (iWeb, iChat, Mail or even Sync'ing) the laptop stops responding on the network.

Have looked at all the firewall settings and set it to accept everything (although it doesn't know for the obvious reasons). Really weird thing is I can ping our Outlook webmail address but anything with http traffic disappears into the blue yonder.

Before anyone says anything I know I shouldn't have done such a significant upgrade before needing it - I have been IT for over 15 years however I forget that Apple sometimes get things wrong. :)

I have tried flushing the DNS etc but just can't seem to find why it's not responding correctly on the network. After playing around for a while the laptop will come back but as soon as you do anything to do with MobileMe it disconnects again (well doesn't really disconnect just stops Safari, Mail or any other traffic although pings to the Outlook mail server work - pings to an http address don't. It seems the solution is random I can't seem to pinpoint a consistent set of replication steps which solve the error.

It's such a weird issue that I have no idea where to look next. Anyone else any ideas?

Cheers

Things that make you go hmmmm

Tried it this morning. Suddenly everything is alright in the MobileMe world.

Well for me anyway. Can sign in and the network doesn't disconnect can sync my MB Air and even post to the web using iWeb.

Think someone has changed something in the MobileMe universe?

Hmmmm.... <strokes chin>

Getting thrown off MM Mail

Does anyone else have the problem of MM throwing up an error every 5-10 mins saying MM mail has lost connection to the server? It happens both at work and at home so its not my physical connection to the web.

Im in the UK, so is it the way were connected to apples servers? Is it just another MM issue?

Also when i import my address book it has 20 odd contacts coming up with "No Name". When i go through and edit these, give them a proper Name, last name it reverts back to No Name when i log back in!

AND when i compose a MM mail message and click on the address book it flags up an error saying that the address book is not available at this time!

This is the first time i've had an apple email, i never did .Mac so are these new problems old ones from .Mac, or are they new problems?

Anyone else getting the same issues?

I have the above issues also. Work and home, Mac & Windows, Safari and Firefox.

I also have the seemingly common issue where Push either does not work on my new iPhone 3G, or sorta of does. If I delete MM eMail on my iPhone, they stay in the inbox on MM, yet sometimes there is a copy of it in the trash folder.

I think the whole Push thing is problematic at best, for now. I expected they'd fix all our issues by yesterday, but I guess it will take more time...
