I bought a belkin networking kit for about £5 and installed a PCI Network card in the Beige G3 then hooked it up to the built-in ethernet on my Quicksilver G4 with the cross over cable in came with.

I enabled Mac OS 9.2.2 All as extension set

It freezes on startup and it's File Sharing Extension that freezes everthing up

In OS X on the G4 I enabled file sharing.

Nothing shows up in either chooser or network browser on the G3

All I want to do is share files on the G3 with the G4 because the G3 is my internet computer for now and i need to be able to open OS X installers off the G3s hard drive because swapping files by burning DVDs and CD-RWs is getting really annoying.

I have a cable modem hooked up to the built-in ethernet on the G3 so that's why I bought the Network kit instead of just a cable.

I have the following PCI cards in the G3:

Formac Proformance III
2 Port USB Card with Microsoft Basic Optical Mouse hooked up
The network card

Anyone able to give me any info on how to solve this problem

I used to network my Cube with a G3 Powerbook (which was sold 3 years ago). The Cube had OS X 10.1. or 10.2., can't remember, and the G3 OS 9.2. As far as I remember you can't access the files from your G4 from your G3, so file sharing on the OS X machine doesn't need to be turned on. You can only get the G4 to connect to the G3 (the newer system will recognize the older system, but the older system won't recognize the newer one). After enabling file sharing on the G3 you should be able to see it in the finder/network of the G4 and connect. I'm sorry this is all that comes to my mind, I don't know why your G3 freezes when file sharing is turned on, but this is the way it should work. Hope someone else has an idea on the file sharing issue.

Good luck!

Pulled the Proformance Card, No crashing, Both macs see each other now but...

I cannot connect to the G4 through chooser on the Beige G3 because it comes up with an error saying:

"The connection to this server has been unexpectantly broken"

I can't connect to the G3 in OS X on the quicksilver because it comes up with an error saying:

"Connection Failed This file server uses an incompatable version of the AFP protocol. You cannot connect to it.

I have set all partitions on my beige G3 to shared and enabled everyone 'read only' access. Both OS9 on the G3 and OS X on the G4 have appletalk enabled and they show up they're correct names on the other machine.

Seems like I'm 90% there now and kind of missing something obvious?

Thanks for the help so far
