Networking with PC's

I've been having trouble networking my Mac (running 10.3.4) with a PC network running Windows Server 2003. The goal is to be able to share files back and fourth, but as of yet no luck.

Here's the basic questions:

1. What is the best way (even if its fairly challengin) to integrate my Mac into the PC network.

2. What do I need to do to my machine to make it work?

3. What do I need to get done on the server side to make it work?

If there are any definative resources available online for this type of problem that would be great too.

based on my expirence, networking the two was very easy. it was the same as it would be for any windows box. i had trouble getting windows 2k to network though for some odd reason.

There is a "problem" with connecting to Server 2003 boxes actually, but the fix for this is detailed in the link provided above, and by my good self of course

Using the method described in the "how-to" by edesignuk I was able to connect to the shares on the Win Server 2003.

One question though.....

What is the impact in terms of the security of the network/server of disbling the "Microsoft network server:..."?

Also, is there anyway to log on to the server directly out of Finder rather than using "Go > Connect to Server"?

Not a clue sorry, you'd probably be best to head off to Microsoft.com to find out what the exact purpose of it is in the first place.

If you just enter the address and no share (smb://192.168.1.2), you will be given a list of the available shares to mount.
