neurologist? tension headaches?

anyone had any experience with neurologists? what should i expect?

likewise, has anyone had chronic tension headaches? how did you deal with them?

my girlfriend has them. she has giant knots in her shoulders/back/neck quite often that i'm pretty sure are stress induced. she can pretty much always trace her headaches down to a particular knot but i'm not usually able to get rid of said knots...

she's talked about going to a neurologist, so i'd be very curious what other people have to say and what your experience is.

I have a similar issue, but originated from lifting weights incorrectly(neck in the wrong position).
Now its aggravated by stress, at one time the spasm in my neck muscle got so bad, that my neck locked into position the headache was soooo bad, thought my head was going to explode.

The solution was to get some physiotherapy, after the first session it was about 80% better, and after the third day it was 100%.

The physio actually said a large portion of tension headaches are due to either incorrect posture(especially sitting in front of a computer and/or studying) and poor muscular balance, shoulders over compensate etc.

i went to the clinic for a tension headache that i've had pretty much constantly for 2 solid weeks. he gave me midrin (which is a migraine/tension headache medicine). it takes the edge off the headache a small amount, but doesn't even begin to really help it. he made me an appointment with a neurologist today, but it isn't until the very end of march. i know that they get backed up, but apparently severe daily headaches are at the bottom of their priority list. so says the person that isn't living through it

Well maybe you should have been booked with a headache specialist neurologist. That is what mine is, he has focused on one area and is considered on off the best migraine doctors in the world. BTW the average waiting time for him is 8 months, put yourself on the cancellation list to get in early.

yeah the regular doctor got me a referral, so i just let him send me wherever my insurance covers. do you get migraines or tension headaches? has your specialist managed to get them under control? sorry for all the questions.

the doctor told me that i could try to call the specialist and tell them that i've taken medications and they don't work and i'm having severe daily headaches and maybe they'd bump me up on the list. i'll give it another week or two and then i'm definitely calling to see what they can do.
