Hi all. I've got an iPhone 4, I jailbroke it with absinthe 2.0.2. It's been on 5.1.1 ever since I've got it. It's gotten SUPER slow, glitchy, and buggy over time (you know, because things just get slow over time with the iPhone). I really need to restore it back to 5.1.1 and rejailbreak. I have no clue what an "shsh" blob is, I can't research how to do anything on google because I don't know what I'm doing. I basically do NOT want to touch ios 6 whatsoever. I want to stay on 5.1.1 forever. Don't ask why please.

Jailbreaking was SO EASY on my old 2g iphone on 3.1.3.

I'm using an iMac that is on Leopard 10.5.8

Please supply me with directions on how to restore my current ios and put them in leymans terms. Thanks.

You are going to have to do research if you want to come out of this alive. We can give you instructions, but you are going to mess up, and if you refuse to google anything, then you will be back here every step of the way.

So I recommend you google what SHSH blobs are, redsn0w, firmware, stitching, etc, to the best of your ability.

That out of the way, here are the basic steps you need to follow, with a very important assumption you need to have clicked "make my life easier" in cydia at some so it saved your blobs for you

1) download redsn0w - location google
2) download 5.1.1 firmware ipsw for YOUR phone- location google
3) run redsn0w, with your phone plugged in and powered on, click extras, click SHSH blobs, click query,

You can only proceed if it reports back with 5.1.1 in the box The box will list your available blobs, they will be the firmwares you can choose to restore to. If it is empty, you are screwed and will have to update to ios6 or stick with your current installation

4)Under extras -> even more -> restore, select your ipsw and remote blobs
5)Run restore and it let do its thing
6)After restore, rerun jailbreak procedure - location google

Okay, before you start, if you WANT to stay on 5.1.1, download a program called iFaith. Reply back when you have done so.

Why are you staying away from 6.1.2?

I updated my old jailbroken iPhone 4 from 5.1.1 to 6.1, and it runs just as good... If not better.

"Make my life easier" is not in cydia anymore. But instead, I've installed "iSHSH it" from cydia and saved my blobs onto cydia. On the top of the cydia home page it reads: "SHSH: ios 5.1.1, etc etc"

Ok so I ran redsn0w and followed your directions to see what happens when I clicked on extras, shsh blobs, then query. I've supplied a picture of what the box looks like. It appears to have my current firmware, 5.1.1. It also has a couple from 6.xx

So does this mean that I can indeed restore to my current 5.1.1 ?? I don't want to go through the restore process to find out that I can't really do it.

What's the difference between a "local" and a "remote" blob regarding redsn0w's restore process?

I've downloaded the IPSW that I have (5.1.1 version 9B208) and I used iSHSH it" (it's all one word but macrumors won't allow me to type it out that way) from Cydia to save my shsh blobs onto cydia and I also emailed myself my blobs and they are in the "downloads" folder on my iMac. Are these the only 2 files I need in order to point redsn0w to during the restore? Is it possible to "stitch" the shsh blobs onto the IPSW file to make a "custom firmware" for use in iTunes pressing the key command to choose a custom ipsw or is this only usable in redsn0w?

And the reason I don't want to go to 6.xx is because I have a lot of tweaks that I like and I'm afraid they aren't supported for 6.xx and would rather not deal with the hassle of not having peace of mind.

DUDE YOU GUYS BRICKED MY IPHONE!!! My iphone is in constant recovery mode. It will NOT restore in iTunes or on redsnow. It restored just fine the first time in redsnow for 5.1.1 but I had "No Service" showing and it did not have the settings to change the APN for my Tmobile service.

You have a lot of explaining to do. I now have no phone.

Sucks to be you :D. Should have just updated to 6.1.2.

With all joking around, I've never seen a bricked iPhone.

Dude you need to calm down. We have no explaining to do, since it's your phone and your decisions that made your mess in the first place.

Just go into DFU mode and restore through iTunes. You can forget about 5.1.1.

You were warned to research as much as you can on google.

If it restored the first time, then my instructions worked. If there was no service, then you must have relied on a baseband hack with ultrasn0w, which you failed to mention? In which case redsn0w would have warned you not to update your baseband (again, google meaning), if you still updated your baseband, then you cannot unlock it again to work with T-Mobile.

However that point is moot as you seem to have somehow mucked up the restore by doing it a second time. So DFU and restore, I don't know what you have tried with redsn0w, but it should still be able to restore. If not, you are SOL and need to DFU restore in itunes, in which case, welcome to ios 6.1.2.

I DID preserve the baseband in redsnow. After having no service and no settings to manually enter data settings, I tried restoring again in redsnow but kept getting error messages. I installed untrasnow via cydia just for the hell of it to see what would happen but no luck. I tried restoring in itunes but kept getting error messages. I rebooted my mac & tried again. Same error message. Luckily, it let me restore finally. It restored to 6.1.2 & I jailbroke it with Evasion.

The cool thing is that I now can access tmobiles 3g speed. The little 3g symbol shown on top left corner. Its way faster.

The lame thing is that, just as suspected, a few tweaks are not compatible. These are Backgrounder, Lock calendar, & Manual correct. Can anyone tell me if there are other versions of these? I can't live without backgrounder or lock calendar. And I'm not paying $12 for intelliscreenx or whatever it's called.

So all this trouble for what? When you could have just upgraded to 6.1.2...

Never done any of this before. NEED to restore my iP4 on 5.1.1 to 5.1.1

Did you not read my last post??? Because 3 tweaks don't work on 6.xx

Oh, and my phone FACTORY unlocked.

Boohoo, 3 tweaks..

InfinityTask replaces Backgrounder.

If you're looking for something like IntelliScreenX, LockInfo is $3.99.

Factory Unlocked has nothing to do with not being able to jailbreak. So looks like your life might have to end without some of these tweaks.

Because the dude up above told me to.

Thats not what i'm reading in the posts.

Just have some patiences, most apps are or will be updated to 6.x or have replacements. App support for 5.1.1 in the appstore is fading fast as we are now 6 firmware versions onward, take some time to find replacements for your apps an enjoy 6.1.2.

Because the dude up above told me to.
Sigh.

So, because someone on an internet forum (trying to help mind you) told you to do something AND you didn't want to do your research BECAUSE you wanted everyone else to do it for you and lay it out in easy to digest instructions, then that person and everyone involved in this thread is to blame?

Come on. The actual practice of jailbreaking requires some basic knowhow and common sense. It's apparent that you have that based on later posts where you were capable of conversing on the subject and capable of restoring/re-jailbreaking all on your own.

Sorry, you can't blame anyone here for this. Especially when it turns out that you were capable from the get go, you just didn't want to do the work.

Ok ios 6 sucks balls. The apps for youtube in the app store all suck & have ads. EVERY app I open stays in memory & I have to close them all in sbsettings processes or my free ram is always below 200mg. NEVER had that problem in ios 5.

Oh and to the person above...infinitytask is NOT AT ALL the same as backgrounder. In backgrounder I had the option of choosing which apps stayed running & which stayed closed. So...you fail completely!

And yah, maybe I should have done more research but all this crap is way more complicated than jailbreaking a 2g iPhone which I was used to doing. What I'm really sick of is Apple keeping the ios platform closed. Osx isnt closed...I can install whatever the heck I want, modify if however I want too.

You know there are a few YouTube tweaks that work wonders, are in HD and ad-free, as well as some that allow you to kill all background apps with a single swipe.

But I think I'll let you figure it out on your own.

And this is why you should probably just stay away from jailbreaking all together. Maybe get a Nexus? Those are much simpler to handle.

I agree with this! 1+

What exactly are you trying to do to your phone?

iOS 6 is fine, just a few apps you are used to are not working, get some others.
Although i would rather see more openness for iOS you are acting like 12 year old, grow up...

If you have the blobs, which it seems you do, then you can downgrade to 5.1.1 at any time with an iPhone 4. Once you figure out your issue that is.
