Hi everyone!

I must apologise that my first post in the forum is one asking for help, but I can't seem to find anyone else out there having the same problem.

Since I have updated to ios5 everything is working great except one thing - syncing with iTunes.

It doesn't matter whether I do it via USB or wiFi, the symptoms are the same: namely that iTunes starts syncing and everything seems to go fine, but then it crashes on what iTunes calls "step 4 of 4". The LCD style display at the top of iTunes says something like "waiting for changes to be applied" and the progress bar keeps moving but the sync NEVER finishes, I've left it for like 30 minutes.

In the end I've had to cancel the sync every time. Is anyone else having this problem?!

iPhone 4 ios5, latest Lion OSX 10.7.2 and iTunes 10.5.

I didn't have that exact problem, but my sync was incredibly slow. As in it took over 10 hours to complete! Sorry this isn't much help to you though as I was able to just wait it out

Right thanks - hopefully it's just the first sync and then it will be normal after that?! I'll try leaving it plugged into my Mac overnight tonight!

I'm having a similar problem, it gets to the last step, then it just stays syncing on "waiting for items to copy" I let it run over night, and when i woke up it was still the same problem.

It never completes and i have to cancel the sync.

I have an ipad 2 that is on the same apple ID, and same wifi network, and it works just fine....

Nobody seems to know how to fix this....

so bummed...

I had this problem and more

My iPad2 had to be resynced about 8 times before it would not cancel with an unknown error message saying: The sync was not complete because the system was unable to complete the sync.

That's like saying "I can't because I can't"

Several of the times I had to uncheck sync music, sync videos, etc. because there was tens of Gigabytes of 'other', the nondescript yellow segment on the load status. On the iPad it was 54Gb of 'other' that prevented me from loading anything showing that it was almost 11Gb over the max. ?!?

I still can't get my one of my 2 iPhones to complete the sync. The iPhone 3GS was ok eventually, but I had to resync it 5 times to complete the process. The iPhone 4, not so lucky. There are still some things that haven't downloaded (apps, music, ringtones, calender entries, etc.) and they are sporadic (e.g. 80% of my music downloaded and I didn't realize that it wasn't complete until I listened to an album that had some songs missing.)

This problem has been around since the IOS5 betas. It's normally down to some of your items not being able to sync on the first pass. Cancel the sync then untick all of the items (music, photos, videos etc) in iTunes so that nothing syncs. Let the first sync complete then add those back in.

Thank you for the info, but it seems that the songs deleted on the phone are trying to sync automatically when the phone is connected to the computer via usb cable and i untick everything that i could to prevent that, but every time i look the phone is syncing and i have to stop it,what you just explained will stop that? It sucks, you know.

This worked in my experience but there may be other causes. Googling for "waiting for changes to be applied" returns a bunch of ideas.
