i know .mac changed to mobile me
but i've never paid for the service and i have the .mac address. am i supposed to cancel this on my own?
i thought it was only free the first 3 months of owning a mac and it would cancel itself.
is the .mac email address free? and it only costs to sync the mac with other devices?
i hope someone can clear up the confusion, thanks.

Due to the horrible transition from .Mac to MobileMe, Apple offered extensions (up to 3 months). It's possible you are in the extended time still. The .mac address is not free, it is part of the paid service.

i bought my mac in february...hmm
they wouldn't automatically charge me, right?

If you go into settings pages on me.com, you can see when your account expires.
I've looked and can't really tell if auto-rebill is on, but you should at the very least receive email before your account auto bills.

and i don't remember when the add-on happened, but there was a 1 month and a 3 month extension given, due to the catastrophe that was the mobileme launch. so it's quite possible you've just been extended on the trial account.

If you want to see the status of your MobileMe account, open the system preferences and then click on the MobileMe icon. From there you can look at your account to see if your still on a free trial and how many days you have remaining.
