Never rebooted an iMac so many times

no cars, only boats
My previous macs run SL, Panther (!), Lion, etc. I have a range of Macs they actually never die :)

So this january I bought myself the latest iMac, biggest screen, and it was delivered with Mountain Lion.

And now conclude that Mountain Lion requires me to reboot the iMac at least once a week.

Is it possible that new machines are so bug prone ?

Could you go into detail on what caused you to reboot?

On what basis do you conclude that? I leave my 2012 MacMini on almost permanently, rebooting occasionally at whim. My 2009 MacBook, which also runs ML, is also rarely rebooted.

It sounds like you have some specific problem, which can likely be fixed.

I agree to the above. But the fact is that several times a day to gets things to work is really a pain.

Either the machine freezes, or the network does not work anymore, etc. etc.

I have multiple macs and those I never (ok only for software updates), whilst the 27" I restart regularly.

Either it is ML or it is the 27" but this is not normal.

OS 10.8.4 is not the most stable update
Safari 6.0.5 crashes a lot for me, but not sure if it is safari or the combination of 10.8.4 & safari 6.0.5

which version of OS? 10.8.4? ...if so, did you previously have 10.8.3 and update it? some have had issues with this update, works better if you download the full 10.8.4 combo update.

My MBP was unstable w/10.8.4 update, so I did the 10.8.4 combo update and it is much more stable, however, safari is still crashing quite a bit. And if my video gets to be jittery or buffering I find a restart helps (this could be Flash).

Well, it's kinda hard to tell. I still could use some pointers to where your machine locks up. in which apps do you get freezes? Network problems, are really common with macs, especially new ones, so maybe reset your router.

There is also this you could try if you haven't.

The iMac freezes in many different situations, nothing systematic.

I did the update to 10.8.4 via the auto-update so I have no idea what update was done.

The hardware test both simple and Detailed reveal "no problems".

If you've been updating regularly, it was probably the point update from 10.8.3. I suggest you download and install the 10.8.4 Combo Update. A Combo update sometimes fixes issues caused by a Point update.

I agree, the automatic update is probably the culprit, ^^this should help.

I'm having the same issues with my iMac. I'm also going to try the combo update right now.
 
I'll download and install the combo (thanks for link - speeds things up).

Not quite convinced of this (mainly because the problem already existed before 10.8.4) but I really want to get this nuisance out the way.

I called Apple Support, they asked be to clear the EPROM (CTRL+ALT+P+R and reboot). Tried that also.

Lets see...
 
Did the EPROM reset, did the Combo re-install and ... I don't know. Have to wait a week or so to see if the freeze re-appears.

So time for patience
