mid-2011 Macbook Air. Went through Lion and Mavericks, with barely a monthly glimpse of the beach ball.

Now it's every few minutes.

Sounds like you may have an app or utility that conflicts with Yosemite. Try holding the shift key when booting to get to safe mode. That bypasses any login or startup items and will eliminate that as the cause.

If the BBs go away in safe mode, use Etrecheck to ID everything running and start removing things to find the offender.

Thanks -- appreciated.

Spotlight still indexing? Which App(s) are chewing CPU?

I've disabled Spotlight indexing for most things. And it's been a week so it should have indexed by now.

Chrome.app is what chews up the CPU for the most part, in my case.
