How can I tell Windows to shut up?

Everytime I start up it wants to tell me a whole crap load of things. It's always the same things. How do I tell it to shut the hell up?

Here's the list...

"New Hardware Discovered!"

"Your computer might be at risk..."

"Let windows find new software?"

It always fails to find the drivers for my USB tv tuner... and I deliberately shut off the windows auto-update because if I let that run then it'll close out of whatever game I'm playing to update something I never even use.

How do I tell it to just shut the hell up and never tell me again?

Oh... and while we're at it... how do I get rid of the annoying start up and shut down songs?

You can't. Welcome to Windows. Please destroy your stay.

If you have Boot Camp, the easiest thing to do is get MacFUSE on your OS X partition so that you can read and write to NTFS partitions. Then you can search the Internet for the names of the startup and shutdown sound files, find them in your Windows partition, and then delete them from within OS X so that they cannot recreate themselves on the Windows side.

Disable Windows Start-Up and Shutdown Sounds: Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices. Click the Sounds tab. Under Program Events, highlight "Start Windows", "Windows Logoff" and "Windows Logon" and under Sounds, scroll to the top and choose "(None)" and then hit Apply.

Disable Windows Security Notices:
Start > Control Panel > Security Center. Click "Change the Way Security Center alerts me". Un-check the desired boxes.

Disable New Hardware Detection: You likely have to disable the PnP service (not to be confused with the UPnP service), but that is not recommended. Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.

To stop windows from trying to install stuff you dont want just open device manager and disable the device, it will no longer try to load drivers for it.

Thanks for the help CWallace.

I was able to get it all to stop.

...

And by PnP, you meant plug an play, right?

All the stuff I already have hooked up will still work, correct? I hopefully won't have an issue with turning this off until I replace the mouse then (if I ever do... the might mouse is pretty cool... I used to use a trackball for playing games but I've actually found I prefer the mighty mouse.)

Oh wow! :) I love Safari for Windows. I didn't realize until I just tried it in another application... but hitting the down arrow key in Safari behaves the way it would on a Mac (skips down one line or goes to the end of the line if you're on the last line already.)
