Hey, so I just got home from Costco and Best Buy with a new 10.5" Space Grey 256GB WiFi iPad Pro, Apple Pencil, and Smart Keyboard. I'll be switching from my 2015 12" rMB to this. I also have an iPhone 7 Plus.

When setting up the iPad, I chose "setup as new iPad". I could have restored from my phone backup, but I've heard that can bring any potential issues with it, and I also didn't want all the apps from my phone on my iPad, so I decided to just set it up as new.

The only issue with doing it this way, is that I don't have my iMessage history now in Messages on the iPad. Is there a way to sync just that but leave everything else, or would I have to restore from the phone backup?

If not, it's no big deal. And I know that with iOS 11 iMessages will be stored in iCloud, so this problem will be a thing of the past anyways.

Loving the new iPad though, typing this on the Smart Keyboard. Amazing speakers and display. Was going back and forth between the 10.5" and 12.9", but I think I made the right decision with the 10.5".

Might be of help.

Are you on the iOS 11 beta? Because I'm not, and I don't have that setting on me messages settings page...
Yes I am. Sorry about that. Just checked my iPhone which is ios10 and message settings is different.

No worries, that must be it then. So worst case scenario is wait until iOS 11, which is good to know!
