So, i just received my brand new iPad pro that of course has USB-C... Simple question that no one can seem to answer as I'm sure there are millions of machines out there with this issue... I want to sync my new iPad USB-C to my mid 2014 MacBook pro that has 2- lightning 2 ports and 2 standard usb ports... In anticipation of having cord/connection issues i went to the apple store and was advised to purchase a USB-C to Thunderbolt 2 adapter and a thunderbolt patch cord to plug into that and into my MacBook pro... Upon plugging it in a message came up and said Thunderbolt is not compatible with this iPad pro model... So my question is,,, and i can't be the only one with this problem as there are millions of machines configured like mine out there.. How does apple expect me to connect my brand new iPad pro to my mid 2014 MacBook pro... I find this to be one of the most ridiculous things i've come across.. Of course i was able to restore the new iPad from iCloud backup because i believe in redundancy but what about all my music/videos that exist is iTunes... Any help would be appreciated as i am on hold with apple on the phone and of course they have no clue..

So heres's the answer after being escalated 3 levels at apple support.... Apple does not sell a cable that millions of people will be needing and it took over an hr to find that out... No one at the apple store had a clue.. You have to buy it from Belkin and its a USB-C - USB-A cable... Here's the apple support document link https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT209186 which actually gives you a link to Belkin...

There’s a hundred USB-C to USB-A cables at Amazon, and certainly more than a few at a local WalMart if you need one urgently.

I bought the Anker USB-A to USB-C cable. It seems to charge the iPad Pro 11", but won't connect to sync with my computer's iTunes. Trying to understand why the Anker cable is any different than the Belkin cable promoted by Apple.

Hard to say. Might try a different port on your computer, or possibly reboot the iPad while connected to your computer.

It looks like you got the USB 3.0 cable.

I purchased this one, which is USB 3.1 gen 2 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07213D35X
it synced great, very fast transfer of a 180GB iTunes local backup (2014 Macbook Pro to 2018 11" iPad Pro).
