Hi, can pls someone try the new macbooks with LG TV (with 120 hz function) as external displays? I saw one review on you tube and with M1 macbook pro it feel laggy...( when connected to windows pc it was fine and smooth) What about new one?
(Correction: I see you're asking why the adaptor doesn't work. It SHOULD work. As far as I know macOS does support 4K120 if you have the hardware for it, although I haven't tested it myself as I'm too cheap to buy then necessary adaptor.. If I happen to try HDMI 2.1 with my MBA/MBP/Hackintosh and C9 I'll try and update this thread... might be a while though.)thnak you for the test, yes i would like to see performance of 4k/ 120 hz because i want it as my external display( when 42 oled finally release). I found this adapter : https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-48Gbps-Adapter-Supporting/dp/B08MSWMXT4
4k 120 hz ready, but there is restriction for mac, only 4k/60 hz supported. dont understand why.
What do you mean by choppy? Do you have a link to the video? Was it a MacBook Air? MacBook Pro (so M1 Pro/Max?)Yes thankfully it is possible with right cable, but on M1 13 macbook it was choppy experience.. :/
And the 60hz is only at 422 or non HDR, so useless for use as a monitor with macOS. Apple needs to get this corrected ASAP as the 40gbs Thunderbolt ports can easily handle the bandwidth necessary for 4k HDR 120 444I just plugged my M1 Max to an LG C1 OLED display using this cable:
USB C to HDMI Cable 6.6ft (8K@30Hz), Type C(Thunderbolt 3/4) to HDMI Cord 4K 120HZ, 48Gbps Compatible with MacBook Pro 2020/2019, MacBook Air/iPad Pro 2020, Surface Book 2 and More (2M)
8K USB C to HDMI Cable Upgrade to HDMI 2.1 or future-proof your setup with the USB C to HDMI 2.1 cable. This Cable transmission speed up to 48Gbps, resolution up to 7680x4320, refresh rate up to 8K@30Hz,4K@120Hz, 2K@165Hz. supports HBR3,3D video, Dynamic HDR and HDCP 2.2. Outstanding Watching and ...www.amazon.ca
The cable is supposedly able to drive 4K @ 120 Hz however it's listing it here as 60 Hertz refresh rate only inside the macOS settings.
This is good stuff thanks! PC mode will get 444 at 60hz, but not HDR. The choice has always been either 4k HDR 60hz 422 or no HDR to get to 444. I hope you know different thoughHere is a good thread where we exhaust efforts trying to get HDMI 2.1 working. Unfortunately macOS is currently limiting any hdmi connection to 600mhz clock speed. We know it's not a hardware limitation also because older Intel machines with bootcamp can utilize the 2.1 adapters at full capacity.
Mac mini: 4k @ 120hz?
Any thoughts on using something like this to emulate a Displayport device, forcing the Mac to output a full signal then adding on a DP to HDMI 2.1 Active Adapter on the output? https://www.ute.de/produkte/videotechnik/edid-emulatoren/nti-dp-hp-mntr-src.htmlforums.macrumors.com
Regarding the chroma mention above, if you set your LG OLED to PC mode in input settings, it'll output 4:4:4.
