Hi everyone, I'm new to the forums, but I've been lurking for awhile. :) After making the huge mistake of going from an iBook to an IBM, I just bought a brand-new 15" 2.2 matte MBP yesterday. I'm having some trouble downloading an application, and it's causing my Internet to stop working and the MBP to freeze.

I downloaded Adium and Firefox without a problem (except for the fact that whenever I start Firefox, instead of opening straight from the dock, I get a window where I have to click on the firefox icon again... what's that about?).

Now I'm trying to download Office 2004 from my school's software site, and every time I try it'll stop downloading after a certain point (no error or anything -- it says it's still going but the download isn't progressing at all). When I cancel the download, then I can't get any Internet pages to load. If I try to quit and open the Internet browser again, then my computer FREEZES. This happens when I try to download using Safari OR Firefox.

Does anyone know what is going on? The only thing that I can think of that might be causing my problems is the fact that when I bought the MBP in the Apple Store yesterday, I started it up to make sure the screen was ok and everything, but instead of going through the whole setup, the Apple guy who was helping me out forced it to shut down after I checked out the screen (I saw in another thread that happened to someone else).

On a related note, my timezone was set to Atlanta instead of Cupertino. Should that concern me?

Otherwise everything seems great with the computer (and it's really pretty and making me happy). I'm just trying to figure out if the download problem is a hardware/OS problem, or a problem with the website. I'm just really worried that it's making my Internet stop working and more importantly, my computer freeze up.

Sorry if this was an overly-long first post -- I appreciate any help!

And just a quick update - I had no trouble downloading the free Adobe Reader, but my computer had the same problem downloading the Apple software update (stopped downloading, Internet stopped working, but I restarted it before it could freeze up).

I'm so confused.
