New 15" PB with Locked JPG

Newbie trying to get some help.
My guess is that I locked the photos on my DC and when I downloaded them to the computer they remained "locked". Now I am trying to delete them by dragging them to the TRASH, but is denies the request since they are "locked". Thus the questions:
1) Is there a way to unlock these photos or,
2) delete them straight away

Any help would be great.

Is there not a checkbox on the inspector for the file? Select the file in the Finder and hit Command-I...

What exactly does 'locking' a file do? Does it simply make it non-deletable or does it actually protect the file somehow?

Other than creating an encrypted image, is there a way to make a specific file/folder only accessible by password??

Locking prevents it from being deleted.
Can you password protect a specific folder?

No.

You can create an encrypted read/write disk image as suggested above (see the Disk Utility). Once created mount it when you want to use it and unmount it when done.

So that is the only way then....damn. I was really hoping you could simply set a permission or password on a given folder/file without having to make an encrypted drive image. Complicates things a little bit....more or less it's simply an hassle

It may be possible with third-party utilities (if they patched the FS somehow), but I don't know of any.

If this is important to you submit a suggestion to Apple. Who knows what you might get in 10.5!

I'm not sure if it is truly important to me or not, but it seems like a rather basic feature that shouldn't be too hard to incorporate. After all, Windows has had it for a long time so it can't be that hard

I will submit a suggestion, just to see what happens

You can delete locked items by holding option while emptying the trash.
