I haven’t had a MacBook in 3 years. I’ve survived at home by using my iPad and work computer.
My needs are pretty much office suites, Light Room, Photo Shop, and light video editing.

Just wondering if I am making a mistake buying a M3 now vs waiting until November for an M4??

If you're willing to accept "last year's tech", you can probably find a very good price now on the m3.

If you're able to hold out, you can buy a new one for "the latest and greatest".
The m4 (particularly the m4pro) may offer "a nice jump up" from the m3.

If you don't buy one "right out of the starting gate", but are willing to wait a month or two longer, I predict they'll even start coming down in price (as in, "$100 off deals")...

No way an M3 would be a mistake. The M3 is an incredible chip, and the amount of gains you will likely see from an M4 chip aren't enough to make make the M3 now a mistake. The M3 will last you for years. I got the M3 Max about 3 months ago, and I couldn't be happier.

I bought the 14” MBP M3 Pro to replace my dying 2019 Intel MBP and the difference is astounding. I am in love with this machine. Not sure what the improvements will be with the M4 and of course I am sort of anxious that I had to pull the trigger with the new chips being released so soon. But honestly, the display resolution, the performance, the battery life… it’s a pleasure to use this device.

Yeah there's nothing an M4 will do that this M3 Pro can't, in my case. But everyone has different needs. For the price, it was a no-brainer.
