scared me

I was going to buy a mbp in the next few weeks. A refurbished one.

I don't think a little colour fault is a big issue for me. but too many poorly lit areas would be bad.

I mainly do office work such as spreasheets.

Two questions perhaps you could help me with:

1: Is the text size readable? Being 1680*1040, I am using 1440*900 on a 19" at the moment?

2: How well does bootcamp work on a mbp?

Do you always write with such poor spelling? I know that it is popular from all the text messaging people do, but it comes off as so lazy and ignorant. Sorry to take over your post, but it is so disheartining to see this junk spreading. It is worse than listening to people with an "LA" accent saying "like" every other word. Sure, everybody is doing it, but that doesn't stop it from sounding stupid.

So, back to your thread, did you get a CD1 or a CD2. I had big problems with my CD1 matted, including the screen. After having to send it back 3 times for various problems Apple ended up replacing it with the CD2 glossy and I like it a lot more. Does anyone know if Apple reduced the thickness of the displays for the MacBook Pros as compared to the PowerBooks? I wouldn't be surpised if that would have an affect on the where and how the engineers could place the backlighting.

I would highly recommend getting a refubished CD2 over a CD1. Both my sister and I have had quality problems with the CD1 and AppleCare just kept sending back broken units to us.

1) Text is readable. You could always bumb the resolution down and Leopard is suppose to have a scalable UI.

2) Bootcamp works great. It sets up an easy to use dual-boot system on you computer.

Surely Apple works around the contraints of existing LCDs, rather than makes the LCDs and backlighting fit into the design of the computer? I always thought that the panel and backlighting ship in a certain way from the manufacturer and that Apple simply installs it in the display bezel...

It's CD (Core Duo) or C2D (Core 2 Duo).

crazyworld - if you're not happy with it then keep the pressure on and get another replacement. I know it's a pain, and it does sound like you've been very unlucky, but don't stand for it - it's the only way Apple will wake up and sort some of these quality issues.

I wish I could believe that this is just a matter of bad fortune. However, I really don't think so. I've had several replacements (and replacement displays) and they were all like this - more or less. The store units are also like this, more or less.

I do hope you keep fighting to get what you should have had. I kind of gave up with the last display replacement because I realized that Apple simply doesn't have high quality displays at its disposal at this time. I hope that befor my warranty runs out (December) there will a good quality replacement available, but I'm not counting on it.

I definitely will not purchase another Apple laptop until I am assured that they have started using good quality displays. It seems Apple is one of only a few companies that is using these crappy displays, and perhaps the only company using them in their flagship laptop computer!
