Hi just bought a 2009 4,1 mac pro. It is running High Sierra. I checked and it doesn't look like it has been flashed to a 5,1. How can it run High Sierra and is there a way to tell ,if anything has been done to it?

Ok not much interest in this I will post a funny and then move on. I have been picking up any cheap Imacs.
I think I'm up to 10 so far. I have a 2010 that I bought for $25 without a screen or glass cover. This Mac pro
came without an airport card. Who needs another cable laying on the floor. I searched Ebay for one and they
all seem to fit anything. I decided to pull the one off my screenless $25 2010. I stuck it in and it worked perfect.
So no cable on the floor to my modem. Looks like I either got really lucky or any of them work in a Mac Pro.

If it has been flashed, the highlighted entries should look as shown in the partial screenshot.

As I just bought it am curious as to how they did it. I read where they say if it was patched the airport card wouldn't work. Mine works fine. It was $120 and it seems to run just fine. I appreciate your help.

I see where it should be ,but there is no Patch Updater in my utilities. Its not a big deal was just wondering how they did it. The guy I bought it from had no idea of anything, other than he had a big grey box in his apartment and wanted someone to give him some money for it. He said he turned it on....I seriously doubted it since it took me a while to get
it to post. Was funny though.

If you want to do things properly and get it to the most turnkey upgrade state, new (delidded) CPUs, get your bootrom rebuilt / upgraded by @tsialex, upgrade the BT / Wifi to ac, metal compatible GPU etc.

I appreciate your help , but I send a few emails, and look at stuff on Youtube. I just wanted one of these and it works fine for what I'm capable of doing. Don't really want to spend lots of money on something that is way beyond what I use. It looks cool next to my 10 Imacs.

Must be a patched instance and most likely DosDude.

While one would expect most to have it, Patch Updater is actually optional. You can also check for UtilitiesLauncher there.

Another fingerprint is from running kextstat | egrep -i SIPManager in Terminal.
If that returns output, then the SIPManager by parrotgeek was patched in ... most likely by the DosDude patcher.
You can do the same for LegacyUSBInjector

Finally, you can look for com.dd1.XYZ and com.dosdude1.XYZ files under the /Library/LaunchAgents folder.

You sure know how to find stuff. I will look in a few minutes and see if I can figure out how they did it. Thanks

Ok too old and stupid for any of that to work. Finally consulted the web and found the hidden Library and got to the Launch Agents and got nothing but a blank screen. It really must require a patch because its running High Sierra and
it didn't come with it ,so no biggie. I run High Sierra on all my Imacs and like the program so probably won't worry
about any upgrades to anything else. I have one 2013 Imac with Catalina but the other 9 of them have High Sierra
Thanks for your time.
