I'm in too low budget/hobby movie making and editing photos. I have a nikon D5000 dslr and a Sony hd ACVHD camcorder sr-10. I'm on a apple high right now ever since I got my iPad 2. So I jumped in and I just bought an new thunderbolt capable 27inch iMac on apple.com. Can you tell me if I have a decent set up? I just got 8gb memory upgrade, would that be enough for what I do? I'm not at all into video games that's what my ps3 is for. So I just kept the graphics at 512, smart idea? Thank you

That iMac will work with your computational needs. Even Macs from 2007 can do that, just know, that importing your MPEG-4 encoded footage into iMovie or whatever editing application you chose (except Adobe Premiere Pro) requires transcoding the compressed video using some MPEG-4 codec into an editing codec (Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) for iMovie and FCE, ProRes for Final Cut Pro), thus it will take some time. Thus the faster the computer, the faster the transcoding process.
