I just got a new 2021 12.9” iPad Pro. I went through setup, transferring data from my old 2017 iPad. It went through one iOS update (the latest version of iOS 15). Now I’m on “Update Apple ID Settings — Some account services will not be available until you sign in again.” (I already entered my Apple ID for an earlier step.) I entered my Apple ID. It said Continue, and the little wheel kept spinning. Eventually it stopped, and pressing Continue did nothing. I’m able to exit Settings, go to the sleep screen, and get back in. All but the stock Apple apps (which I’m able to use) say “Waiting…” I’ve tried doing a force restart by holding down the power button and either volume button, but all it does is say “Silent Mode off.” Eventually, the wheel stopped spinning, and it asked for my Apple ID again. The wheel started spinning, and it’s stuck again. Any suggestions? If not, I’ll call Apple Support tomorrow.

Okay, there’s been some progress. I still can’t get out of the “Update Apple ID Settings” loop or do a force restart, but ”Waiting…” went away, and I now access all my apps.

I discovered that the force-restart instructions I found online don’t work for the new iPad Pro — you have to quickly press the volume up button, then the volume down button, and then the power button. I was able to do a force restart and finish signing in with my Apple ID. All is well!
