New 21.5" iMac - Should I replace the monitor?

Hello All – I purchased a custom configured 21.5 iMac online in February, but when I received the machine I noticed that the monitor had the yellow tinting issue.

Apple sent me a replacement machine that I received yesterday and the monitor has more yellow tinting than the original machine.

Apple has now suggested that I have the monitor replaced on the original machine, but before having them do this I’d like to get some feedback from those that have had this done.

If you had your monitor replaced on a new 21.5” iMac, can you please comment and please note if the replacement of the monitor has corrected the yellow tinting issue?

I may just live with the issue depending on the feedback that I get….Thank you

I would ask for a replacement.. You don't want that your brand new iMac is opened because it always leaves some scratches and possible dust behind the glass plus it doesn't mean that it's going to be yellow free

All screens will have some degree of yellow. It's inherent in the design. Keep the one you like best in your possession. It's very likely you'll receive another screen with yellow tint anyhow.

I didn't know you designed the iMac! Well, why can't you fix it?

Between stores, friends, messageboards, articles, blogs, CSRs, etc., all of them have had varying degrees of yellow on the screen. The most damning was reading the iMac patent regarding the screen and color inconsistences. They openly acknowledge that there will be some inconsistency. I'm sure you've read this patent as well, Hellhammer. You seem fairly well informed, overall. I've come to a sound conclusion that they all have this yellow tint. Some notice it while others don't. It comes in varying degrees. Some worse than others. Therefore, one needs to either deal with it or look elsewhere. He can get replacements until he's blue inthe face, but AFAIK, just about every repalcement has the yellow tint, albeit to varying degrees. Most have just settled and kept it, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. All I'm telling the OP is that he should just keep one ofthe two in his possession rather than deal with the absurdity of the return and replace cycle. Hey, if he wants to give it another shot, by all means. I just think its false hope.

Also Hammer, Apple really is declining excessive screen swaps. They will do one and let you decide if you want to keep it or return it. Call or speak with a CSR. They'll tell you the same.

I haven't seen that patent.. Maybe all have SOME yellowing but it can be so small that it can't be seen by a human eye. It just sounds so cruel when you say that ALL, every single iMac, has yellowing. It would sounds better if you changed it to e.g. some or even most and then of course, add that it might be so small that it can't be recognized.

I understand your points but telling something as a fact which isn't and depend on a person you dealing with, is quite misleading. It's just a possibility among others

Your points are well taken. I agree my post is a bit blunt as that tends to be my personality. Very dichotic (not psychotic! )

scratches? how you using a rock to pull of the glass? that's a crazy statement i have taken my glass of like 10 times which requires using a fingeranail and pulling it out. i have no scratches. dust can become and issue if you don't take your time.

I meant scratches overall, not on the glass. Seen several cases here when it has arrived with scratches on it (usually on the aluminum), sometimes only few but also cases where the whole case had scratches

I do believe that most monitors have the yellow tinting issue, just some are more noticeable than others.

Although, I’d still like to hear from someone that was successfully able to get rid of the yellow tinting by replacing their monitor.

Just a footnote, for comparison purposes I put my brother-in-laws 27" iMac next to mine and his monitor had far less yellow tinting than mine....

The fact that Apple can’t guarantee the replacement monitor will fix the issue is a sign that maybe I should just try and live with it rather than getting trapped in a never ending loop of swapping monitors and machines until I’m happy.

It’s just frustrating after making a large investment not to have a flawless machine….Thanks again!
