Hi all,

Got a brand new 21.5 inch iMac last week. The screen randomly turns black without any major reasons. It doesn't seem to be a sleep mode/screen saver thing as the music continues to play on. I can adjust the volume or pause the music with the keyboard but the screen just won't turn back on. I have to shut it down using the power button and it happened several time the last couple days. Anyone else experience the same thing and got a solution?

Thanks!

check your "hot corners" in your screensaver preferences, possibly one of them is configured to send the display into sleep-mode (not the whole thing, just the display).

I would say the same thing as Bernard, except that usually with hot corners if you move or click your mouse it will snap out of sleep mode.

thanks guys... but that isn't the cause of the problem.... i was playing music with iTune and the screen turn black all of a sudden and the music keeps going.... i can adjust the volume, pause and resume the music with the keyboard but can't reactivate the screen..... sounds weird huh?

Weird and worrying. Could be a hardware defect.
