Hey guys i have a dilema. I currently have a imag g5 1.8n ghz with 2 gb ram.
I have had it for 3 years(first edition of the redesign) and so far I love it. I work as a designer and want to start to do motion graphics. So here is the deal. I am wondering if I should get a new IMAC 24" (when they are released soon) fully loaded and just sell my current imac or get a 17" HI RES MBP fully loaded. I am torn. I want the portability and my setup is pretty fast, but the 24" screen size would be awesome for work. The MBP setup would definately be more $$$. What do you guys think?????

Well, if you have some extra bucks you could always buy an external screen? Then you could run around with your MBP and when you get home plug it into the bigger screen:rolleyes::)

I use a MBP 15 2.33 on the road, a wonderful machine, but at home I can't imagine being without my iMac 24. I wouldn't want to pound on my MBP full time. Notebooks just don't have the same durability. If my keyboard fails on my iMac, I just replace it at a reasonable cost, and the components are under considerably less heat-related stress in the larger enclosure.

i personally dont think its worth it to get an iMac.
i would get a 15" MBP, and then just get a 24" external, possibly dell, as ACD are outragously expensive. then just get a keyboard and mouse.
you can even keep your MBP closed during this, or use its screen for dual screens. but you would never have to touch the keyboard and worry abou damaging your MBP from using it for long periods of time.

Base 17" HD MBP + 4GB RAM + WD Scorpio 250GB + Ext. Keyboard-Mouse + DELL 24" or 30"

I agree. If you can afford it, buy the 17" HD SR MBP, Swap out the RAM for 4GB, put in a Western Digital Scorpio 5400RPM 250GB HD, buy a DELL 24" or 30" Screen and an external keyboard-mouse/trackball. When your MBP is home, hook it to the external screen and use the external keyboard and mouse all the time.

That's what I plan to do after I get my 8-Core Mac Pro and Apple adds the 2.6GHz C2D Extreme processor inside with Leopard on board. :)

thnaks for the input ... I think I'm gonna go with the loaded 17" MBP and external monitor. I'll post some pics when the setup is complete. thanks

Great choice! I would also reccomend the 17'' Hi res.... It's a beauty and it packs quite alot of power(in my eyes). Get it with an external keyboard, mouse and monitor and you should be set :)
