First time Apple product owner here...

I purchased a new 27" I5 2.8 ghz and am wondering if what I received is indeed the mid 2010 model.

First of all, the date on the box says 2010/06/19, which I take it to be the assembly date - June 19, 2010.

Running System Update showed 6 items that needed updating. The iMac came with Safari 4.0.5. The update version is 5.0.1. It also came with OSX v.10.6.3 and the newer version is 10.6.4.

The card reader type indicates an SDHC. The mid-2010 model has a type SDXC

Did i receive a mid-2010 model?

Check your "about this mac". If it says 2.8GHz i5, it's a 2010. I believe that there was an issue with the SD reader that it displayed it incorrectly

The iMacs were announced in late July but they were actually being assembled before that. The card reader does display incorrectly in System Profiler, that is a well-documented occurrence. As the above post mentioned, if your "About this Mac" profile shows a 2.8 Ghz i5, then that's the new model. For further confirmation should you desire it, enter your serial number on this page and it should tell you that your iMac model is "Mid-2010". https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
