Ok I am getting ready to order my first mac and I while be getting the 27" imac 3.4 i7. I want to be able to also hook up my 2 26" monitors to it as well which only allow 1080p so am I safe getting mini DP to HDMI cable (monitors have HDMI ports)?? will everything work or do I need some additional cables or software.
Thanks!
Dan

mDP to HDMI adapters are fine, they can do 1920x1080. Don't get them from Apple though, you can get them from for 10$ each from eBay (I have one and it works flawlessly).

Yes. If the monitor has display port, you definitely want to use that, because if not, you have to buy a pretty expensive adapter. It can still be done though.

You dont need a special adapter to run those monitors.

You only need it if you are running 30" displays.

You can get mDP to HDMI or mDP to DVI adapters for cheap -- or even the entire 6 foot cable.

My 20" ACD has a big cable coming from out of it that connects to (I think) a Mini-DVI video output port. The cable splits into a USB, FW400, power supply, and this mini-DVI port. Question is: can I connect this, and a new NEC monitor to the new 2011 iMac and exactly how?
