cheers,

if you don't mind me asking, about how long does it take to get 'good' at C4D? I've been thinking about it for a long time. About how long does it take for any one of these pictures (I noticed one time frame on one of them. Is this typical? thanks

thx

Thx everyone for nice comments:)

@Peyton: I Have about 3 and a half years using Cinema, i used FormZ before that , and DenebaCad before that ( it means i have almost 10 years doing 3D modelling ) it takes some time to learn 3D properltly, maybe not so much as me. Cinema 4D is an excellent tool, have a smooth learning curve, its fun to use and powerfull at the same time, i recemend it for anyone who want to start in the 3d field.

about the time frame one the images ( the one u saw, "the mace" probably ) was made for a Speedmodelling challenge, so its not a tipical time frame for this. Since most of the images are for fun and personal projects, they took weeks or months to finished until the smallest details are ready, but it depends on each case.

if u need to know more about Cinema 4D, u can visit its developers website:

http://www.maxon.net

and if you need some learning support there are a lot of great forums such as:

http://www.c4dcafe.com ( great video-tutorials in this one)

http://www.3dattack.net

i hope this help you.

cheers,

Carlos

Hey, thanks a ton, I have about 3 years of 3D studio max (5 and 6) under my belt, I've heard great things about C4D and was curious. You really do excellent work!

Thanks for the info...;)

Is 3D software from different companies (C4D, Maya 7, and others) similar in terms of user interface and functionality? I have downloaded the learner's edition for Maya 7 so that I can try it out (I bought a book so that I can get started on this). Maya 7 is more expensive than C4D; but, I heard C4D is a very capable and professional grade 3D program. But, C4D does not have the free learner version.

I would like to make a good choice at the beginning so that I will learn the program I am going to stick with.

Great work, Im into C4D as well. It is quickly becoming the love of my life.
Cant wait to get my hands on the new mograph mod.

Cinema 4d does have a free demo version.

Thanks for pointing that out. Does this demo version include many features the official release incldues? I would like to go through learning with a training book and I would like to have access to various features of this program during the learning process.

C4D rendering options is, IMO, its best feature.

When you render you can choose how to render, textures, lines and shading.

I like using the Cell Shading renderer.

That depends on what you want to do with the program. Both programs are good for a lot of stuff, Maya can get into some very advanced areas if that's want you need.

I am new to 3D designs; so, it may take a while before I know what I would like to do after learning the basics of the program. I am in the process of expanding my experience with various graphic/design programs as that interests me personally and I am hoping to use these design skills to move into design fields .
I decided to give it a go with Cinema 4D and I downloaded a demo version and bought a training book on C4D via Amazon. I think that will get me started. If I feel I can learn this program to advanced skill levels, I am planning to buy the software. C4D has different versions and I think I should be able to pick which one meets my needs after going through the initial learning stage.

C4D is good choice from what you described above. Maya is a amazing app but it's not the best starting point for most people.
