I just got my new iphone 3gs, love it (first iphone for me). I ported my number from tmobile - phones working great.... i can send and receive calls. However, I am not receiving sms messages. I can send them (my wife, still on tmobile received it), but when she replies to me - I dont receive it.

Could it be a problem with her sms routing back to me (maybe tmobile is holding it hostage so to speak?)

Yes. It could very well be a routing problem. Can you have someone that isn't on tmobile text you? I had this problem when i ported my number from VZW (so did my BF). We could send messages to VZW people but not get them. We went into an ATT store and they fixed it up for us by calling tech support. A 3rd party company handles all out of carrier texting. So tmobile, for some reason, still thinks you are their customer, so they don't forward the message out to the 3rd party company to send it to you. It just gets lost in tmobile looking for your number... which isnt there.

also just so you know the 3G S plan does not come with any SMS so if you didn't get any while you were buying your iPhone today that would be the issue.

Call AT&T and make sure that you have Texting on your plan.

same exact problem is happening to me. i switched my number from sprint and everything is working fine (send/receive calls, sending text messages) but i cant receive texts. it appears i can't receive them from non-Att(or non-iphone users) because i was able to receive texts from my friend who has an iphone but it does not appear that i can receive any other texts.

i spoke with ATT and Apple people and they said that hopefully the problem will be resolved by the morning.

I just upgraded from the 1st gen iPhone, and can't receive any text messages, and ones I send aren't getting received by anyone.
