Posted in wrong Forum the first time. I just bought my wife a 4S off Ebay and it came with 5.1 is there anyway to upgrade to 5.1.1 or 6 to be able to jailbreak this phone. thanks

Jailbreak it with absinthe. It'll run great.

Absinthe is for 5.01
Absinthe2.0 is for 5.1.1

A 4S on 5.1 can't be jailbroken.

I you have SHSH/blobs for 5.1 and 5.1.1 or 5.0.1 you can re-restore to 5.0.1/5.1.1 otherwise only 6.1.3 is the only restore option but without a JB!

i would keep on 5.1. its a pretty stable firmware and isn't obsolete yet. plus you get youtube native :)
I'm starting to feel like iOS 5.x is starting to be obsolete - I'm starting to run into more apps that are iOS 6 or later. So since 5.1 can't be jailbroken, they may as well upgrade to 6.1.3 and not run into issues with apps that require iOS 6.

5.1 can be jailbroken for older devices (3GS and iPhone 4 - but not a 4S) but essentially your conclusion is correct - newer devices and newest firmware is required to guarantee access to the cutting edge apps and their newest features.

I have a 4S on 5.0.1 already jailbroken. It was working fine for a year or so and now it's really sporadic, apps continually crash. I really don't know what I'm doing but I want to keep the jailbreak and just stay on 5.0.1 until the next iphone and/or jailbreak comes out. Can anybody help me with this? :(

Thanks,
Joe

Have you downloaded any tweaks as of recently of this crashing problem?

You always have the option to semi-restore, ilexrat, or if you have iOS 5.0.1 SHSH blobs (check via cydia) a re-restore. I'd recommend the re-restore if you do decide to go down the route of making a new device

I don't so, when this started (like two months ago) I went into Cydia and started removing whatever I didn't need/use. That included installuous (I think that made it worse).

Do you know of a step by step guide I can use to do the restore to 5.0.1? When I say step by step i mean like tutorial for infants, lol....I really don't have a clue how the coding stuff works.

Thanks so much!!

I've never done a rerestore before. You can always google for a tutorial

Open cydia and click TSS center, what're the iOS SHSH blobs you have?
