With push notifications. One of the very very rare Apple apps in the App Store.

Well the first gift is out. I fired up the app and there opens a nice animated and shiny white gift box. It's a 2:30 videoclip for the fans of the hip-hop band "Die fantastischen Vier" (Wikipedia) and—tataaa!—the very first time that I download a video or anything from iTunes (I always listen to internet radio or my own music).

Today in the uk it's a Christmas episode of alan partridge. Good gift, but it appears you have to pay a couple of quid for it? Thought they were meant to be free?

edit: now it's free. hooray. ahaaa

Day two in Austrian App Store. Another music video clip. Not my taste again.

They've been pretty good so far - yesterday's UK gift was the Trivial Pursuit app which is pretty nice for nothing.

Phazer
Yeah, none of them have been to my taste yet and so I haven't downloaded them, but it's still nice that you get something without having to pay! :D

It only took 20 minutes for me on Virgin Media 10 Meg.

I've got virgin media 20 meg, theres nothing wrong with my connection, not sure why it's taking so long, I have noticed before with video podcasts like carpool it takes a while.
I know there large files but I also know I can download files a lot faster elsewhere on the web

I think it's an iTunes problem, they really struggle when there's a big demand on their servers.

I started my download as soon as I got the announcement message. Because it's a decent freebie, there's probably a lot of people downloading it now and causing it to slow down.

I've had similar problems myself with iTunes. It once took me over an hour to get a 200MB iPhone update because there were so many people trying to get it. I downloaded it again the next day when the rush had died down and it took less than 4 minutes.
