Hey guys. I have just come across this video on YouTube, which claims to be showing a leak of the new App Switcher in iOS 14.

I usually don't trust leaks like that, however, this seems kinda reliable to me, especially as it looks the same as the App Switcher on iPad. It hasn't yet been reported by MacRumours, so I decided to start a thread and share out thoughts about it.

Do you think that this App Switcher makes sense? Personally, I like that it is consistent with the iPad, however, I am not sure how much more useful it will be, especially on smaller iPhones.

No one knows if that's the new switcher in iOS 14 or if it's just due to the fact that it's an internal build, which can customize certain aspects of the OS (including switch to disabled versions of the task switcher, like the iPad one you see in the video). Chances are the first beta of iOS 14 comes and goes and this is nowhere to be seen.

It doesn't matter whether or not I think makes sense, what matters is the app switcher that we actually receive.. because that will be the one we will use.

Too many people get a certain thought into their head, and allow it to change their expectations, and then frustration sets in because they receive something other than what they were expecting. This is why I always say "I'll believe it when I have it in my hands".

Sure, it's nice to daydream.. but don't allow that to have the power to change your expectations about something you cannot control.

EDIT: Also, we need a third poll option: "it doesn't matter".

From the stories Ive seen it can be the old/current setting or this new one, a few options. So it may be a big nothingburger.

I prefer the grid look and seeing 4-6 at a time; scrolling to find what you need 1 at a time is daunting to use multitasking on the phone. I often just dont use it as its fast to find the icon on the homescreen

I have never said it will be the new app switcher in iOS 14, just checking if people think it makes any sense to have it that way if Apple were about to implement it like so.

As I said before, maybe you didn't understand the point, we'll know it when we see it. To speculate otherwise is an exercise in futility.

I personally hate the app switcher on the iPad - it’s utterly confusing. There could be more elegant solutions to this problem. And before someone asks me what they are, a simple reminder that they’re ones sitting on a $200b+ pile of cash - so I’m sure they have the resources to figure this out.

I wish we had the side by side switcher from iOS 7. This half covering apps by stacking them is so stupid.

I like this, it’s a compromise between the two versions.
