Downloads has gone and iTunes and iPod have been split up.

Mac OS X went a while ago (it was on the end) so the only software product which has a tab is iTunes.

I thought the downloads was useful for finding software (although mac update and version tracker had more software, the Apple pages were quite nice to navigate and had a good enough selection). Whilst the page is still available, I think it is a (minor) hint Apple have something else planned for Mac software, learning lessons from the App Store.

Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity.

Just show what Apple is about:

Mac
iPod
iPhone
iPad
iTunes

The Store is there to enable access to these things. Support is there . . . for support. This area now includes downloads. Not to confuse OS X downloads with App Store downloads. Push Mac downloads into Support. Keep things simple and easy to understand.

Makes perfect sense.

But not all the Mac software was Apple software, so it doesn't belong in support. Patches Apple issue all get their own (sometimes incredibly brief) support document outlining changes, so there is no need to duplicate these.

But for 3rd parties who were features on Apple's site… their software just got harder, not easier to find. There is not even a link on the Mac OS X page.
