New apple remote question

My remote for my Atv broke and was wondering if the new apple remote works with the Atv? Sounds stupid, but On the Apple website it doesn't say it can be used with the Atv or not.

I figured it has been discussed before ,but when I do a search for Apple remotes in the Atv section and don't see any topics related to my question I gave up. They're were a lot of threads about pairing, but none titled " lost remote, will a new aluminum work?"
