Hello,

Can I plug my Harman Kardon Soundsticks 2 speakers into the new Apple TV and stream music directly from my ITunes (without wires of course!) on my MacBook Pro?

Yes, you can.

Your Soundsticks have a 3.5mm stereo input jack, which is an analog connection. The aTV outputs digital audio through the optical connection. So if you can connect the optical to an external d/a converter, you could do it that way.

Or, if you happen to have a home theater receiver with either an optical or HDMI connection, you could go that route. Is this a possibility for you?

Thanks guys I think I understand all of what you said. I have none of whats mentioned but will get. So all in all I will be able to go into my itunes on my macbook, play music and then the music will come out of my speakers which will be plugged into my Apple TV, is that right?

Yeah that's right. I'm in the same boat as you, need to get a digital-to-audio converter to get my speakers working through the ATV. Annoying really, why couldn't they just put a standard audio socket into it!

I think I'm Ok with what to do. I'm going to connect the Apple Tv to my television using the HDMI. And I'll use the optical cord to connect to my 3.5mm jack for my speakers. I've just had a quick look online and is this the digital to audio converter i'll need to use

Note it has the optical connection (from the Apple TV) and then 2 outputs right and left. My Soundsticks just have a single 3.5mm output. Does anyone think this may be a problem? Any help would be appreciated.

No problem, you should just need one of these:
RCA to 3.5mm Female

Forgot to mention this earlier...if your TV has a stereo audio output that supports audio from the HDMI connection, utilize that.
