WooHoo the wife just came in and has picked me up a 160gb Apple TV from CEX in UK as we traded a PSP and DSlite, so was only about £50 - is still in shrink wrap :)

Haven't played yet, or opened it as working, will set it up tonight.

I have a macbook pro with most of the music on, and my netbook that has my smaller library.

Can i sync both to ATV, and does anyone have any tips for setup etc? I'm not a mac or pc noob, just looking for some advice from thise who have been there before :)

As far as I know it's only one computer that can be sync'd and then 4 or 5 to stream (again, I think).

My only advice would be to make the syncing as hands-off as possible. For music I have a smart playlist to include anything with a 1-star rating (I don't use stars to measure how good things are, just as another method of sorting) and then have set my AppleTV to automatically sync things in that playlist. If I ever want songs on their I'll get set their rating to 1-star, next time AppleTV syncs, they'll copy.
For movies and TV shows I have it set to automatically sync anything that is unwatched (so anything I add that's new) and don't have to worry about making sure my most recent things are on there.

Other than that, I would make sure you have all of your album art on your music and set the screensaver to display album artwork - it's pretty neat.

I got mine today and loving it so far. Remember to adjust the tv settings to make it look better, I also found increasing the sharpness to almost to the max makes it look better.

Now if anyone can help me find the best hacks for the apple tv that are free.

Thanks

google or a quick search here on macrumors will give you tons of stuff related to atv hacks

Thanks,

found out about the 1 sync limit the hard way, so had to move a load of stuff over to one PC.

Would I be right, now everything is synced if I turn off syncing I can remove items from the mac to free up some room?

Ideally then I'd only purchased shows and movies from the ATV to save them being on the computers (otherwise I need a new HDD in one of those computers!)

Care to elaborate on TV settings - it's a Sony Bravia that can do 1080i, but ATV chose 720P - should I up it as I heard that causes issues?
