New Apple user (transferring Music and Photos)

I have just sold my PC and bought the IMAC 27" , I made the switch because I heard the MAC is better for photography. Well I am not a techie and have many questions. Here are a few.
1. How do I transfer my Itunes to the new IMAC and keep all playlists and apps for ipad? I have copied the ITUNES folder to a external HD.
2. How do I transfer Pictures to new IMAC, they also are on an external drive.
