I just had to sign an agreement at the US AppStore, promising never to try to buy anything from it if I'm abroad, lest Apple use "electronic means" to track me down. I'm in Spain and will continue to try to update my American purchases (including Pages) but it's a tad annoying.

If you are abroad, or if you reside overseas? Because if you were a US citizen with a US credit card and a US billing address, and you travelled overseas on holiday, I'd expect you to be allowed to buy some apps while outside the US.
