New ATV connected via Wireless to Mac

Has anyone used their new ATV and connected it to their Macbook or other type of Mac?

I am looking to buy one for my camper and since there is no internet connection where I go, I would just have it connect to my 2009 MB and get the movies from the Mac, but is this possible and has anyone done this?

No one has got hold of the new Apple TV yet, they still haven't shipped.

You can't connect it direct to your computer, it connects to your router by wi-fi or ethernet cable.

Yes, but I could connect it via an ethernet hub to my Macbook, although it kind of defeats the purpose of the ATV.

I am thinking it is best just to spend the $149 and get the 160GB ATV from Apple.

Not entirely sure how this defeats the purpose... Just put a wireless or wired network in your camper. No need for internet. You could do it cheaper than buying a $150 older AppleTV. A wireless G router would be pretty cheap.

No need for a hub. You should be able to connect it directly to your computer with an ethernet cable if that's what you want to do. But you don't even have to do that. You can just create an "ad hoc" computer to computer wireless network using just your Macbook. I do this sometimes to connect my iPhone to my macbook pro when I'm away from an internet connection or router.

Click on the little Airport menu item in your menu bar and choose "Create Network...", press ok and you're done. It should show up as an available connection on any wireless enabled device. You also have the opportunity to set a password and choose the channel your Mac is broadcasting on.
