New Camera and lenses from Canon

For the crop sensor crowd, it looks like a winner.

None of the lenses jump out for me...already either have them covered or couldn't possibly afford <grin>

I'm not fundamentally anti-mirrorless, and clearly that's the future... but I'm not just dying to ditch the SLR model until there is a really compelling reason for me to. I hope Canon is working on it and plans to release a really great mirrorless camera someday.

There are MANY great reasons, it's just a matter of camera manufacturers holding back so they don't cannibalize their DSLR lines.

No Mirror Mechanism:
Less Noise:
Less Camera Shake:
No Movement of Air:
Very Fast FPS Speed:
Cheaper to Build and Support:

For me the whole point of a dSLR is the optical viewfinder and extremely fast autofocus. There's a market for mirror less (you're part of it, clearly), but there's a well-established and more lucrative market for dSLRs.

There are tons of great mirrorless options already and none from Canon (I say this owning an EOS M), not sure that's what we need from them so much as a replacement 100-400mm L, etc.

Im curious about the 24mm pancake, looks good with an good price. Hopefully it performs well.

It would take a DSLR sized mirrorless camera with as good controls to make me ditch my Canon, but I don't see mirrorless cameras as replacements. For me, they're more supplements. A Canon mirrorless that was as good as the Olys, Sonys, and others out there means I could stick with one system. I had an Olympus OM-D that I loved, but unfortunately it had to go due to financial reasons. I've been eyeing up the Sony A7, but I think it would be nice to have a Canon mirrorless that I could tote around for my travels and what not. I took my 5D MKII with me on my motorcycle bag the other day to snap a photo and it barely fit in my bag after removing the grip and putting the relatively small 17-40 f4 on it. My Olympus with 3 lenses fit with room to spare and was a good quality camera.

It's pretty improved over it's predecessor and the price isn't bad either. That means I'll be able to pick up a 7D as a second camera here in the future for fairly cheap.

I would totally be all over a Canon mirrorless camera with a full frame sensor, EVF, and EF mount, with no issues with shutter shake.

Sadly, the 24mm pancake is EF-S, and not EF.

If you like what Sony and Panasonic are doing (better sensor technology, smaller bodies, worse lens selections, battery life, and AF) buy their cameras... It's almost as if you want Canon to slap their name on something to validate it, but look how awful their mirrorless camera is....

Get what you want... the A7S looks great.

I think the major advantage of a digital viewfinder is that WSIWYG for expsoure. It also makes it easier to see in darker conditions. The only thing is that the quality wasn't as good as I would have liked it to be with my OM-D. I'm sure they'll improve and if they can increase the resolution even more to make it more like an optical, it will be fanatastic.
