New CarPlay Not Showing

It's my understanding that iOS 12 supports Google Maps and Waze. I have the Beta but these options do not show up in CarPlay. Is this only available in the Gold Master or do I need to do something to make the Apps active?

Those apps won’t be able to use CarPlay until they’re updated for iOS 12. This won’t happen until after the GM version is released. I had an aftermarket head unit installed with the ability to mirror my iPhone to my stereo to watch movies, Waze, etc. and let me just say it’s amazing.

I just installed a new unit, as well, and it also has mirroring. I haven't used that feature yet because I get a pop up saying car play will be disabled. So, it works well for Google Maps?

Yes. I only use CarPlay when I don’t feel like mirroring my device. I’m still able to place calls through the Bluetooth from the stereo. I would test it out parked and see how you like it.

How does this mirroring thing work? Is it a hardware feature on your cars unit or an app you’re using? I have CarPlay but no such hardware feature.

It’s on my head unit and I also had the Apple HDMI adapter installed with my head unit to allow me to play movies for my kids in the car while driving.

Thanks for your answer. I wish I had that feature in my car (I use built in CarPlay with Mercedes Benz).

I even went as far as to sign up for Waze beta and nope, no Waze in CarPlay. I’m sad.

Waze have to be updated for iOS 12 to be able to use it in CarPlay. It won’t be upgraded until after iOS 12 is released to the public.
