I've been migrating from my macbook pro to a new iMac with a fusion drive and oh my god, this thing is almost like an SSD until I move a large folder around and then holy crap is it slow. Having used an SSD on my macbook pro for so long, I think I've really lost my taste for scroll bars (and the faint buzzing of the hard drive) so I am planning on upgrading my fusion drive soon, even before the applecare runs out.
And now that OWC has announced (see post below by their president) plans to release a motherboard mounted portion of the SSD to upgrade, All of us fusion drive owners are faced with a new choice when upgrading our fusion drives: replace the spinning drive with an SSD vs just buy a new motherboard mounted SSD from OWC.
Obviously the cheaper option will be to replace the HD with an off the shelf SSD, but will there be significant speed differences between this option vs. going with an OWC part?
